This course is an intensive look at language learning for ELLs in the mainstream classroom. We will critically investigate many methods commonly used with ELLs and determine why they are helpful (or why not). You will be asked to learn strategies, and apply them in your own classroom and in your lesson plans for the Curriculum & Instruction class. These two classes are linked together. Our class time will be spent sharing new methods and your time at home will be for the purpose of researching, responding to dialogue discussions, reflecting, and preparing for team strategy presentations.
The course methodology will involve reading the textbooks and related course materials, short lectures, modeling, PowerPoint presentations, demonstrations, team strategy presentation, dialogue discussions and peer responses, and a journal review submission.
